Sorry Black Eyed Peas! I couldn’t resist. Now that this morning’s sugar high has worn off, let me tell you about my accidental mug collection. You know how it is right — you don’t know what X’mas gift to get someone you don’t know well, so you get a what? A mug. Or you get a souvenir from a get-together, and you get what? A mug. Or a friend gets you a gift because you’re a functional kinda gal, and so he gets you what? You guessed it, a mug. And so, ta-da! You have an accidental mug collection.
When I saw that one little “trunk” was getting a bit cramped with various mugs, it made perfect sense to just start treating them as a set. I couldn’t bear to part with any of them! Each one has a special story attached to it.
Here’s a brief history of the mugs shown in the pic above (from left to right): A matching cow mug and cat mug from one of our Ninangs (Christmas gifts), a gift from my close friend and officemate (Christmas), a Jojo A. All the Way mug from Jojo (souvenir and gift), a Spirit Warriors mug (movie souvenir), and a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. mug from a dear friend (I asked him to bring me something that will remind me of New York and he got me this!). I have a couple more mugs not shown in this pic.
But while I like ’em all, my favorite mug sits right beside me at the office:
I don’t use it for anything at all, save for holding this Pikachu-like mutant bunny.
So… what you gonna do with all that mugs, all that mugs inside that trunk? A-duh! Start a collection!

April 18, 2006 at 9:26 am (18 years ago)i think mugs are almost always everybody’s accidental collection. we used to have so many mugs at home too, plus thermal bottles. but we had to dispose everything at the garage sale before we moved here.
here’s what’s funny–one of the 1st things i bought here was a mug. kasi i had no glasses (the trip to ikea was the ff day pa) and i figured that when you move into a new home, you at least need something to drink from. so yun.
the mug now sits inside our bathroom cupboard.

April 18, 2006 at 10:20 am (18 years ago)my ‘accidental collections’ are keychains and ballpens. i always buy lots of keychains when visiting a new place/country, meaning to give them away as souvenirs (pasalubong) but either i buy too many or i end up giving something else to the intended recipient…so i ended up keeping a lot of these keychains for myself.
i never meant to collect ballpens but somehow i’ve collected a bunch of them in varied kinds, colors and designs, and now i don’t want to throw them away so they’re just taking up space on our computer table.
my real/intentional collection though is notebooks…i’ll take a photo of them to show you one of these days.
