Start your morning 30 minutes earlier than usual. You’ll be amazed at the amount of things you can accomplish in just half an hour. Better yet, you’ll feel more energized to start the day!

Here’s how a typical morning works for me. Alarm rings. I hit snooze. Just in case I don’t hit the snooze button, I have a second alarm for back-up. And a third. What happens is I end up in bed 30 minutes more than usual. The ironic thing is I do get extra sleep but it’s interrupted by 10 minute alarm intervals. That doesn’t make for a very restful sleep now, does it? I wake up crankier too.

So, fine. If I want to wake up earlier, I might as well commit to it. If I typically wake up at 6, then I have to wake up at 5.30. No snooze buttons allowed. That was an experiment for a few days and it made a pretty good impact on my day!

Why you should start your morning 30 minutes earlier

You’ll have enough time to sit down for breakfast.
Typically, I make myself a sandwich and eat it on the way to work. With extra thirty minutes, I can sit down to a breakfast of rice, eggs and ulam. With fruit too! So not only do I have a more nourishing meal, it’s much healthier too than a jam sandwich.

You can enjoy “me” time.
Uninterrupted alone time can put me in a better mindset for the day ahead! Whether it’s taking my time in the bathroom or having a cup of tea while reading a book, this extra 30 minutes calms me and makes a good segue into the day.

You can get a headstart on chores.
Decluttering, rearranging, a minor tidying up — cleaning up the room a little at a time can lessen the upcoming chores of the day. It’s also refreshing to wake up to a tidy room.

You can take your time getting ready for work.
While I can take a shower, get dressed and fix my hair all in 30 minutes before work, it can get tiring rushing everyday! The extra 30 minutes helps you pace yourself so you don’t feel so disheveled.

Early in the morning is usually my “me time”. What I usually do is drink coffee and read a book or whatever that I have around the house. Those 30 minutes, though, it is a short one, is one of the most treasured and enjoyable time for me. hehehe!

That’s true Ms. Toni. I really want to do that. I do that before with my husband when there are no kids yet. But I blame my kids now because I have a hard time doing it. I love to laze around in bed when my kids are not up yet. I just love to lay beside them until they all wake up.

That’s so sweet! I tend to do that also. Just lingering in bed beside the kids is actually quite energizing too. :)

I agree wholeheartedly! If only I could actually do it! :) I’m still trying though…I love the extra patch of time I have to myself when I do :)

You can do it! It IS difficult though. This morning I had to give in to the snooze button. Eep! But tomorrow will be better. 😀

So true. I tend to finish a lot of work if less distractions coming from co workers who are in constant need of me.

High five! When I get to work 30 minutes earlier, I appreciate the quiet half hour of working with no interruptions too. Gets more work done!

I so agree with you about setting up multiple alarms that wake you up every 10 minutes. Well, I don’t do this, but my husband does. It really makes me cranky in the morning! I’ll definitely share this method with my husband.
