Santa who?

by

Do you remember the first time you wrote to Santa? I can’t, but I do remember the last time I wrote to him. I asked for a book from a series I was into. Santa stuffed my stocking with a book I already had. I remember getting so upset because Santa should’ve known I had it already, right? That was the end of my “Dear Santa” writing. I also had an inkling about the driving force behind all those Santa presents by then, so it was about time I let go anyway.

It’s interesting to rebuild that connection with Santa once you have your own kid. Timmy doesn’t have a concept of Santa Claus yet, so when we chanced upon the jolly old fellow at the mall we just had to get a picture. It didn’t go so well though.

Santa and Timmy

I’ll be one of those parents that introduces kids to the idea of Santa. Santa is a mix of magic and love to me, even though I’m a grown-up now and know better than to write to him now (tell that to Brittany of Glee though!). Still I think that the story of Santa is one of generosity, warmth and imagination. This is absolutely premium for little children whose worlds of play are simply rich with possibilities and wonder.

Maybe next year Timmy will be the one chasing Santa and it’ll be Santa who looks like he wants to get away from an insistent toddler. Maybe not as Santa loves kids.

This is Timmy’s first picture with Santa. When he’s older, I think this will make for an interesting story to share with him.

What’s your Santa Claus story? Did you write to Santa as a kid? Are you introducing Santa to your kids? Do share!

When I was a kid, I would wait at the window looking for a passing red glowing dot — Rudolph’s nose!

This is the year that Matthew’s really excited about Santa. We started last year, but I think this is the year he understands the entire tradition/mystery. And so, here we are, anticipating tonight http://homemademagic.tumblr.com/post/2415487667/dir-santa

    Merry Christmas, Toni!

Timmy is growing up so fast! I wish my baby boy Ashton had a first photo with Santa this year but he was elusive haha :)

I wish malls or Santa visits would be plenty next year, and one that is scheduled so parents can bring their kids easily.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
