Don’t blink — they grow up so fast

The author and her son, taken in 2011.

I can’t remember the last time I changed my son’s diaper.

I can’t remember the last time I held his hand to help him walk.

I can’t remember the last time he talked in baby babble and I didn’t understand.

CS Lewis said, “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back everything is different…” I think about that now and can say that it’s very true about raising children. I remember the agonizing feeling of seeing the sun rise while trying to make my infant son sleep. The dawn reminded me of the few times I’d sneak back into the home after a night of partying. But the dawn took on a different meaning once I had a baby. At that time I just wanted the sleepless nights to end. Looking back, I wish I had handled it with more grace, that I had cherished each moment even more lovingly. Don’t blink – they grow up so fast. Read more…

Bar Dolci Lunch

An espresso cup of Gelato from Bar Dolci.

Office breaks are best enjoyed when there’s good food. I often eat lunch at my desk, or buy from the building cafeteria then eat the packed lunch at our office pantry. There are times though that one officemate would invite another to eat out, and before we know it, we’re pushing our chairs away from our desk, walking in the noontime sun, eager to take a yummy break.

One of my favorite go-to’s for office breaks is Bar Dolci. On the first floor, it looks like it’s simply a gelato place. That’s what I thought for a long time. But one visit led us to look more closely around — they served lunch! They had lunch specials, called their Chef’s Specials, at PhP195. It came with a main meal, a glass of iced tea, and a scoop of gelato. Not bad! Read more…
