Organize books by color

by

Would you organize books by color? Try it! It’s a fun exercise and your bookshelf will look awesome when you’re done. Two Saturday mornings ago, I decided to check out Timmy’s bookshelf and organize books by color. It was pretty relaxing too. Here’s how it turned out:

Fun bookshelf: Organize books by color.
Added room design: Organize books by color.

How to organize books by color:

  • Clear some space on the floor, then take out all the books from your shelf.
  • Sort by spine color, creating clusters of red-spined books in one area, orange-spined books in another, etc.
  • Think of how you’d like your bookshelf to look — Rainbow type? Reverse Rainbow? Do you want to cluster all reds first, then oranges, then yellows…? Do you want to do single books in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, then back to Red, Orange, Yellow…? It’s all up to you!
  • Accent the books with like-colored decorations. See the green Toy Story bucket in the green part of the shelf? That was one way to include my son’s magazines in his bookshelf without losing the rainbow color scheme.

I had a lot of fun! Timmy helped me towards the end. Organize books by color and you’ll see how it adds a cute touch to your room design too.

Why don’t you give it a try? :)

I’m so happy, I got to visit your blog again Toni! Even happier to see your book shelf project. My husband and I have this Christmas book project too. I hope to write about it soon and post it on my blog. :-)

You are so brave! :) The OC in me gives me so much anxiety whenever I consider sorting books by color. hahaha. Seriously, I get palpitations at the thought of not sorting them by subject matter and category. :) It looks really great though!

Hi Patricia! I have to admit — halfway through the sorting I was so tempted to just go sort them by subject matter! I told myself I’ll do that next time. :) Thanks!
