Kiddie birthday party food

Birthday Food

When we go to children’s parties, I know there are four kinds of food I can count on: spaghetti with a sweet meaty sauce, hotdog on a stick (with marshmallows at the end as a bonus), chocolate cake and fried chicken. Yum!

This plate I shared with Timmy was super delicious. I passed on the fried chicken but had cheesy fries and ice cream instead. Oh sweet kiddie party bliss.

Growing up, I had and attended my share of kiddie birthday parties. Some of the food I remember fondly are:

  • Hotdog on a stick with marshmallows at the end — for display, the sticks would pierce a pineapple or cabbage head. The display would look like a set of hotdog fireworks ready to take off!
  • Birthday cake with frosting, sugar flowers, with the celebrant’s name spelled in icing.
  • Rainbow bread with filling. Do they still make this? It’s basically white bread with colored swirls and it rocked my Rainbow Brite world.
  • Ice cream karito. They have similar ice cream carts from Nestle and Selecta now, but I remember having a party with a Magnolia karito. Er, that was eons ago, yes.
  • Lollipops shaped like strawberries. You’d eat them and your whole mouth would turn red. LOVED these. I’d eat one today for nostalgia if I knew where to get one.
  • Spaghetti! For long life and for the kids’ sweet palate. Best made with chunks of hotdogs and a hint of ketchup in the sauce.
  • Fried chicken of course! Go extra on the drumsticks for the kiddies. Or for a cuter presentation and to make use of the wings, chicken lollipops!

Kiddie party food is a refreshing change sometimes from the adults’ menu. I suppose on the grown-ups’ end, it’s nostalgia that makes the food extra delicious.

What kiddie birthday party food do you remember fondly? What food do you enjoy now when you attend kiddie birthday parties?

You mentioned all the well-loved Pinoy birthday party treats, hehe! It’s amusing how they’ve remained the same!

These days, when I attend birthday parties, hotdogs with marshmallows, sweet spaghetti, and chicken lollipop are staples. Most of the time, though, there are “adult food” options at parties. I think it’s a great idea to have a kiddie menu and a grown-ups menu!

Though I have been staying in the US for most of my years, my mom always had these Filipino kiddie treats during my birthday. So I had grown a fondness for them, and I’m sure when I have my own little tykes, I’d let them experience these too.
