Do you remember when we were young?

Do you remember when we were young?

We’d buy Coke poured into a plastic pouch and drink it with a straw.

We’d play on the streets till sunset — tag, patintero, piko, bahay-bahayan, luksong tinik, Chinese garter, taguan.

We’d pluck out a little Santan flower, pull out the pistil and taste the sweetness of the nectar on our tongue.

We’d wake up excitedly on Saturday mornings to watch Uncle Bob’s Lucky 7 Club.

We’d turn on our TV sets at around 5 pm on weekdays to watch That’s Entertainment. No, it wasn’t so jologs in the early years. (Hail to the Wednesday group!)

We’d wear our Sunday best when going to Mass.

We’d watch “Wok with Yan” on Sunday nights and respond to Mr. Yan saying “Helloooooooo.” Or was it “Herrooooooo.”

We’d begrudgingly hit on the keys during piano lessons, hoping we could’ve been watching Beverly Hillls Teens instead.

We’d walk to the nearest video store and be awed by the wide Betamax selection. (Be kind, rewind!)

I’m a kid of the ’80s. I enjoyed my childhood. I wish I had enjoyed it more had I known growing up would’ve been so complicated.

your parents rode the daughter-must-learn-piano bandwagon huh! hahahaha!
the only piece i ever mastered (at di pa tapos) was ballade pour adeline, or the lovingly yours helen theme song. must be THE piece for every piano student back then 😀

I think I wanted to take piano lessons because my Mom’s such a terrific player. I wanted to be like her! Alas, my fingers disagreed.

I also played the games you enjoyed. I love playing with dolls (not the orig barbie, which I luckily had as a present from the late tito jerry when I was in Gr. 6.),the “so-what-if-we’ll-have-lice-noon-escapades” I had with my girl friends (we used to wear our respective mother’s high heeled shoes, *hahaha*). Holen, teks, pog, Dr. quack-quack, sipa, tumbang-preso, etc… are the games I played with my friends’ not-so-older-brothers…

Hay, I should have played harder then…lol

Dr. Quack-Quack! That was so much fun, getting tangled up and all. LOL!

were archie comics part of the 80’s? I love reading those!
i miss playing outside with our cousins & neighbors. we enjoyed the games you mentioned-patintero, chinese garter, there was even a game called Pepsi-7up.
plus the 80s remind me of the game and watch, hologram na slippers, mga toys na freebies with cheezit & chikadees,t-shirt with folded sleeves, and kulot na bangs.:) the latter was a great beauty blunder most of the girls were guilty of, including myself. haha…

Pepsi-7-up! Hahahahaha! I remember that too!
Hologram slippers — w0000ooo000t! Oh my gosh yes!!! Jelly shoes too!
    Chikadees? I remember!!!
Kulot na bangs. Biktima rin ako nyan. Hahahaha. I looked like a poodle!
