Blueberry Cheesecake Dreamin’

by

Not too happy about this cheesecake. =(

Ah, the classic blueberry cheesecake. What could be better than biting into its creamy cheesy goodness and letting the gooey sweet blueberries burst in your mouth? Sublime, sublime. Sadly, that wasn’t my experience when I ate this particular cheesecake. The crust was terribly dry and fell apart the moment I tried slicing a piece off it with my fork. The cheesecake was hardly creamy; its texture was like a gelatin army that decided they wouldn’t give up a single piece of each other for battle. The blueberries stuck together in one congealed mess. And it all looked so pretty together ‘no? Oh well, appearances can be deceiving. (Can you tell by the placemat where I had this cheesecake?)

The best blueberry cheesecake I’ve had was back in college. It was at Full House, a restaurant across our school. The crust was delicious — the perfect blend of some butter and crushed graham crackers, the cheesecake was creamy and the blueberry topping was yummy. Come to think of it, I’ve tasted better cheesecakes but maybe it was the whole college experience that made this cheesecake very memorable. On special days (a.k.a. on days we had money to spare for a meal bigger than siomai rice), my friends and I would order Full House’s Chicken Ala Kiev, Chicken Crepe, Boneless Bangus with Mayo Garlic — the house specialties! And for dessert, a yummy blueberry cheesecake.

Are you fond of blueberry cheesecake too? Where do you think one can find the perfect blueberry cheesecake? (If you think the one you make yourself is the best, you are very very lucky!)

Linnor : It’s not there anymore! Sayang I didn’t get to taste it. KFC now stands where Cafe Rizal once was.

annabanana : Wow, raspberry cheesecake! I haven’t tried that yet. I love La Chesca’s Cherry Cheesecake. May La Chesca pa kaya?

ruth : Haven’t found a good recipe for this but Mec just shared she makes a good one. Hingin natin sa kanya!

mare : Oh wow that tastes good too!

paz : Oh have you tried mango cheesecake? 😀 It’s good too!

sachiko : Ooooh I’ll forward your comment to Mama! She’s gonna love that! Thanks!

delish : Now you gotta share that recipe on your blog, sis! And where’s Barbara’s?

While I was never fond of blueberry cheesecake, I always did enjoy the desserts in Full House as well as a host of other offerings, the chicken kiev and the boneless bangus in particular. It’s tragic that it’s no longer there.

Adam: I don’t remember what other desserts Full House had! I did like their profiteroles. Yes, it’s really sad Full House isn’t there anymore. I would’ve loved to take my husband there and show him what my friends and I went gaga over back in college. Whenever I order Chicken Kiev in restaurants, my benchmark has always been Full House’s version. One of my friends said that a restaurant along Katipunan serves almost the same menu and has the same Full House quality. I can’t recall the name… Iris? Gah, I forget.

Oh, it’s sad to know Full House has closed shop. It’s part of my college memories, too, haha. The best blueberry cheesecake I’ve had was at the Cebu Hilton. Very far to satisfy a craving, so I just make my own, using Good Shepherd’s blueberry topping, which uses local Baguio blueberries and are smallish and unpitted.

Kai: Oh wow I haven’t tried the blueberries from Good Shepherd yet. I usually just buy Ube Jam and Strawberry Jam. Will try the blueberries when I go back to Baguio! Thanks for the tip!

Full House! Yummmm…memories! I can almost taste the Boneless Bangus. Shucks, I miss bangus!

Oo nga, sarap ng cheesecakes nila dun. There’s also a nearby cafe near the school called Gayuma? Have you been there? They have a cheesecake called Hidden Desire, and meron talagang cheese bits! Yum! Pero last I heard, the place burnt down. It was relocated to another place, but I don’t know where…

the best one i’ve tasted comes from GAYUMA, a quaint restaurant along hmmm, i think it’s the street parallel to katipunan ave. i’m not sure of the name (rosa alvero comes to mind but it’s the street that leads to the kanto where you get trikes going to ateneo). coming from xavierville ave it’s the street before you hit katipunan, turn left. the resto is on the right side. enjoy!

    Gosh! Memories of Full House…*nostalgia*

The best cheesecake I had was at a party. Apparently, it was brought in from Iloilo. The brand? Calea. Jack’s Loft New York Cheesecake is also quite good.

hi toni, the best blueberry cheesecake i’ve tasted so far is from calea pastry shop in bacolod. until now, i haven’t found a worthy match here in manila.

hmmm, i just noticed caths’ entry. that’s the same pastry shop, but like i said, calea is in bacolod (unless it has an outlet in iloilo).

    hope you could try it.

you must visit bacolod and try the blueberry cheesecake of Calea’s. (google it to find out how good it is) and I think it’s much better than Bob’s. Calea’s the real thing! Ask anyone who has been to bacolod and they’ll tell you about the goodness of Calea. Bob’s blueberry is OK, more of gelatin-cream than ricotta cheese, but delicious nonetheless.

here’s some pics of Calea’s uber-good blueberry cheesecake:
