Alison Jay: Making reading more interesting

by

Alison Jay is an awesome illustrator of children’s books. Timmy has his favorite books on his shelf, and I have my favorite books on his shelf too. Most of them are the books illustrated by Alison Jay. Here are two of our Alison Jay books.

According to ChildrensIllustrators.com, Alison Jay uses “a quick drying oil paint on paper and sometimes adds a crackle varnish to give the work an aged appearance.” Her illustrations do have that warm, vintage vibe. I love it! Here’s a cute orange kitty cat up close with one of Timmy’s cute orange kitty cat toys.

Alison Jay’s art is so relaxing. She has a whole bunch of books. Type in “Alison Jay” in Pinterest search and you’ve got a great wall of her art.

One of the books of hers that I want to buy next is “If Kisses Were Colors”. I took a sneak peek when I was at the bookstore today. It was expectedly heartwarming, the illustrations expectedly charming. That’s definitely going on my wishlist! For now, I will content myself with her art in the books we have.

Oh, I can’t decide who is my ultimate favorite illustrator. We collect the top 100 children’s books ( the list is in my blog if you are interested to see), and have spent countless hours looking at beautiful pictures. Here is what comes to mind

David Shannon – No David, How I became a pirate
Graeme Baese – Animalia, Snailing Ship
Audrey Wood – Napping House, The Mouse, The Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear
    Karen Katz
