The Power of Now?

by

There’s a little closet in our bedroom. The wooden planks are falling apart. We’ve never used it. I stare at it sometimes. If I have it repaired, the fees would be reimbursed by my landlord and I’d have an extra cabinet for my stuff. Not a problem. Something in me’s telling me not to fix it. I’m not spending more than 2 years in this place after all.

That’s the struggle with renting. I can’t make major changes because I know I’ll be leaving anyway. I’d rather use the supposed repair money for extra grocery money or buy new pillows and bedsheets — you know, stuff that I can directly benefit from and possibly carry with me as I go along in life.

They say make the most out of what you have. Live in the present. Don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today. Stuff like that. I like thinking that way for other things. With a rented home though, I struggle.
