Tea Ties!

What Flavour Are You? Cor blimey, I taste like Tea.Cor blimey, I taste like Tea.

I am a subtle flavour, quiet and polite, gentle, almost ambient. My presence in crowds will often go unnoticed. Best not to spill me on your clothes though, I can leave a nasty stain.

What Flavour Are You?

Mama has recently discovered a passion for tea. She loves to read up on tea etiquette, the right way to brew tea, you name it. When H and I visited her last month, she brewed a mix of lemon and green tea for us. While we sipped on our dainty tea cups, she sprinkled our tea time with tidbits, like the right way to hold a tea cup (keep those pinkies down!) and the health benefits of green tea. As cups of tea were poured, we asked her questions ranging from the serious “Does tea have caffeine?” to the silly “Does my tea need to reach a certain level in my cup before I can ask for more?” We giggled as we analyzed each other’s questions and answers. The more tea was served, the more laughter emanated from each one of us. All through the night, we talked about the facts and follies of tea drinking, and learned tea manners that would make our Social Graces teacher proud.

I learned the most important lesson however not from Mama, but from the warm, fuzzy feeling that enveloped each of us that night. When one shares in another’s passion, the ties that bind you grow even stronger. A certain kind of love is sprung — learning to love what another loves IS love too! That evening, we had discovered that tea tied us together. The best part is that there’s still much more to learn! I look forward to the day we would take our tea Russian-style with lemon, sweetened with raspberry jam and sipped through a lump of sugar placed in the mouth. Maybe we could even learn to read each other’s tea leaves afterwards!
